Life's stepping stones

No, I'm not a Ph.D.!

A small rant for this morning! Some days I truly enjoy working in academia (i.e.- the way things really quiet down near the holiday and over the summer; a boss who is wonderful; and some gratification when a contribution comes through) and then there are days that I despise being treated like I know nothing because I don't have a Ph.D.

There are some people that, like the gentleman I met with this morning, act like I'm a complete moron. I do have a purpose and I do play a valuable role here. Maybe I don't have enough letters behind my name but that doesn't mean I'm less professional or just here to take up space. This department would not run on faculty alone!

God bless the people that appreciate what the non-Ph.D. staff bring to the University setting and pooh to the others that think we're inferior!

Catching up

Since I haven't managed to blog in nearly 3 weeks, I'm taking the bullet approach to catch up on what's been on my mind and happening in my life.
  • I turned 27 on April 5. Within a 24 hour period I felt like an old lady and a young pup. I was invited back to my college sororities scholarship banquet, as the speaker. I was speaking to some of my college professors and in front of students who weren't even applying for college when I was in college. The next morning my boss asked how old I was and then commented that she didn't even have kids until she was 29, implying that I was young, not that I shouldn't be having kids yet.
  • Easter was great but it was hard to come back. I hated leaving John's parents on Sunday afternoon. This feeling was soon replaced with a stomach ache and I spent Easter Monday trying to keep something down. Curses to that Wendy's hamburger on Sunday night.
  • I started class on Thursday and am in freak out mode about staying on top of everything - school, work, being a mom, supporting J in his school work, keeping a house and Oh, yeah, remembering to enjoy life. I haven't told J yet but I'm glad I applied to school before Jer was born or I'm not sure I would have done it. He probably knows now. : )
  • We had a great weekend with friends visiting with their 15-month old. It gave us a great preview of what's to come.
  • The BIG garage sale was last week! This is the spring version of the sale that gave me a big high last fall. However, this year I got a special pass to get an early look! The woman who organizes this is amazing. Her entire home was taken over. I purchased some great stuff. Then, I returned on Friday morning on my way in to work. People were lined up around the corner from their house. It was crazy. I've never seen anything like this! I made 2 quick purchases and got out. I was glad that I didn't even have to attempt to get close to the clothes.
  • I have a question for all of you! How do you balance? Give me one or more things that you do to stay organized, balanced, on top of things, etc. You get the drift. You don't have to be a mom or wife or even a woman for that matter. We all battle keeping up with everything.
  • I know there is more but it escapes me right now so that's what you get. Maybe there will be addendums later.
