Friends with benefits

My morning radio friends, Kathy & Judy, had an interesting discussion this morning about "friends with benefits". They had read an article or e-mail message in which someone explained their situation of actually marrying someone who had started as their "friend with benefits". Others called in to say that they had a "friend with benefits" and they all clarified that these were not affairs.

This actually made me think of someone I knew who had a "friend". The first time he told me about the arrangement, I was somewhat speechless, but then asked for further clarification on how it worked. They would each give each other pointers on what they could do better and enjoyed being with each other with no string attached. This was not a one time thing. They had a weekly get together. We called the girl Mary and another friend and I had an inside joke for quite sometime that there must be "Something about Mary." I really couldn't even grasp this idea of a "friend with benefits" but apparently its not so strange.

The situation got more interesting when I found out he was actually dating and marrying Mary. I wonder whether they will share their past with the kids and grandkids someday.

I had not thought about Mary or my friend for quite some time, but these two wacky radio show hosts do have a way with their Thursday sex topic.
